To celebrate the launch of a captivating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting collaboration is underway. The Pokémon Company and the Natural History Museum are opening a pop-up shop featuring exclusive merchandise. Fans can look forward to products like plush toys, art prints, and writing supplies all drawing from the museum's theme. The big draw, though, will be a specially made Pikachu card, given as a free bonus at the pop-up. The store will operate both the physical location and its web counterpart from January 26 to April 19.

The Book That Inspires the Collaboration

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology represents a much-awaited volume filled with beautiful illustrations depicting Pokémon in their wild environments. It's essentially like what a Pokémon Professor could produce once trainers provide field notes, or what Charles Darwin could have sketched had the Galapagos were populated by flying-types rather than finches. Part of the charm stems from the book's serious treatment, presenting Pokémon as worthy of scientific study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara together with illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

Why This Promo Card Different

The company regularly to issue special edition promos for major tournaments or crossover partnerships. A lot of these collector items typically highlight the iconic electric rodent who serves as the series face. What distinguishes this new promotion apart is its distinctly bigger dimensions. While exact measurements have not been publicly disclosed, availability will certainly be strictly limited, and customers limited to just one card per purchase.

Curbing Reseller Activity

Per a company statement, some of the pop-up items will also be sold outside the institution itself. However, a wider release will only be select retailers in the UK. Importantly, fans will not be able to purchase the card through the online Pokémon Center. While reseller interest is a given, the setup suggests they're going to have trouble stockpiling large numbers this time around. For those feeling left out, consider an alternative like Pokémon Fossil exhibit headed to the Windy City later this year.

"Every penny of sales made in the museum store and its web shop, including these items, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the research of 400 scientists who are scientific inquiry to discover solutions to the global ecological crisis," it says.
