Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Each team includes only eight human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players grant full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its title: it's a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking different ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Responses: From Fury to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is perfect for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Concerns and Player Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for different playlists because of the sheer number of options currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Be Made?
Should the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, should analytics shows this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
