A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a country battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Officials stated the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.
The purpose behind the incident remains unclear and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.
How It Happened
Authorities revealed that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the property supervising the implementation of safety equipment, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, according to reports.
"It is alleged the man was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before escaping on foot," authorities said.
CCTV footage showed a man with dreadlocked hair and wearing what resembled a guard's attire shooting on Stock before running away.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but fell down on the opposite side of the road.
It was further revealed that Stock had an weapon on his person and it was not a robbery during the attack.
