New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he has been in contact with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan early Sunday morning.
Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “positive” during their latest talk.
“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”
Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as critical but stable.
“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”
NYPD issued video stills earlier this week of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack remains under investigation and officials stated it’s not clear if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries according to reports.
The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning near the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was admitted to Bellevue Hospital after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, as reported. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a newborn.
“The first thing I thought about, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. That was my main concern.
“There is a procedure involved, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that his outcome looks very positive.”
Boyd was inactive this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.
He signed with New York as a new signing in spring and was anticipated to become an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on August 2 and was carted from the field.
Boyd has stayed involved with the squad all season long while healing from his surgery.
“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn commented. “Certainly, he comes to the games all the time. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”
Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in 2019. He signed with Arizona in last year and moved to Houston’s squad subsequently. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
