Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was expected for concerns to be asked about his future following a further convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, representing the club's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to turn it around and earn three points naturally but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Squad Response
The manager expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European loss, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's tough because I’m playing for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to help the side back to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, things are bad and it must improve.”
